Overview

Privacy laws vary across countries and even between U.S. states, making it essential to show the right cookie banner to each visitor.

BigID Geolocation Banners use IP-based geolocation to automatically detect a visitor’s location and display a banner that matches the privacy requirements of that region. Banners can be targeted by continent (e.g., Europe), by country, or even down to individual U.S. states—ensuring your site stays compliant everywhere, with no coding required.

How It Works

The BigID platform uses IP geolocation to determine where each site visitor is located. It then automatically displays a privacy banner that matches the legal requirements of that region or state. This works globally, with precision down to the country or U.S. state level.

Examples:

  • A visitor from Germany sees a GDPR-compliant Opt-in banner.

  • A visitor from California sees a CCPA-compliant Opt-out banner.

The system removes the burden of manually configuring regional logic, making privacy compliance scalable and efficient.

Privacy regulations vary across regions, each with its own set of specific requirements. At BigID, we recognize the importance of tailoring your website's privacy compliance to meet these distinct needs. That's why we've developed a dynamic banner system that adapts based on the user visiting your site, ensuring automatic compliance with various regulations.

Configure Region-Specific Banner Assignments

BigID Geolocation Banners come pre-configured out of the box with banner assignments based on global and U.S. state-level privacy laws, so you’re automatically compliant from day one.

However, this configuration is fully flexible. At any time, you can customize which banner type is shown in each country, U.S. state, or continent using the Behaviour tab in the Banner Editor.

From this interface, you can:

  • Edit the default region-to-banner assignments

  • Add new regional rules or remove existing ones

  • Define fallback behavior (e.g., “Rest of the US”)

And if you ever need to reset your changes, you can easily click “Back to default settings” to return to the original BigID-provided setup.

This gives you complete control to align banner behavior with your business and legal needs—no code or external tools required.

Important

To modify the behavior and configuration of each banner type, use the Banner Builder feature.
